HC Deb 11 July 1934 vol 292 cc317-8
21. Mr. THORNE

asked the Minister of Transport whether he has received a report in connection with a trailer which broke away from a tractor in Corney Road, Chiswick, and seriously injured a young man; whether the connecting rod was of sound construction; and if he intends making any alterations in the regulations covering the use of trailers whereby safety chains could be connected to the trailer and its motive power?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

I understand that the accident to which the hon. Member refers occurred on private property and accordingly I have not received any report with respect to it. I am in consultation with representatives of the motor vehicle manufacturing interests on the general question of the strength of trailer connections.

Mr. THORNE

Will the hon. Gentleman see that these trailer connections are strong enough to prevent similar accidents?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

I think my answer covers that point.
