HC Deb 10 July 1934 vol 292 cc159-60
6. Brigadier-General NATIONSir FRANK SANDERSON) (for

asked the Presi- dent of the Board of Trade whether his attention has been drawn to the increase of linseed oil imported into this country from the Netherlands, which for the five months ended 31st May, 1934, amounts to £103,717 compared with £11,648 for the same period last year, all of which could be produced in this country; arid whether, in view of its effect upon the seed-crushing industry, he will consider taking such steps as may be necessary to restrict these imports?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of TRADE (Dr. Burgin)

I am aware of the facts referred to by my hon. Friend. The value of the imports of linseed oil from foreign countries other than the Netherlands has declined from £83,321 to £5,908 as between the two periods in question. Any proposal for an increase in duty on linseed oil is a matter in the first instance for the Import Duties Advisory Committee.
