HC Deb 09 July 1934 vol 292 c16
27. Mr. T. WILLIAMS

asked the Minister of Health if he will inquire Whether the Fairbourne (North Wales) Guardians Committee have adopted a scale for the administration of relief for destitute persons or supplementary relief for unemployed persons?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of HEALTH (Mr. Shakespeare)

I am informed that the answer is in the negative.

Mr. WILLIAMS

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that this guardians committee had a case before it recently where there were 10 persons with an income of 37s. 3d. out of which 10s. 6d. was paid for rent, where no supplementary relief was given at all, and that the father and mother were prosecuted for neglecting the family, malnutrition being definitely proved by the local medical officer; and in such cases, where a guardians committee refuses supplementary relief and malnutrition is proved, what action, if any, can be taken against the guardians committee?

Mr. SHAKESPEARE

I am not aware of those facts, and, before answering them, I would rather make inquiries.
