HC Deb 05 July 1934 vol 291 cc2067-8
50. Mr. SMEDLEY CROOKE

asked the Postmaster-General the amount held by the Post Office from telephone sub- scribers' deposits at the end of 1933; and the approximate amount of revenue derived as interest on the deposits for the year 1933?

The ASSISTANT POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Sir Ernest Bennett)

The amount was £2,936,519. No part of the deposits is invested, the money being largely used as working capital and consequently no interest is received.
