asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury if he is in a 1748 position to state the amount of money collected by the British Museum towards the cost of the Bible manuscript (Codex Sinaiticus); and what amount has been refunded to the Treasury towards the outlay they made when the Bible was purchased?
§ Mr. COOPER
The amount of the subscriptions received by the Trustees of the British Museum from the public is £51,385, of which £46,500 has to date been refunded to the Treasury. A further transfer will be made by the trustees in due course.
