HC Deb 02 July 1934 vol 291 cc1557-8
37. Mr. MABANE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of the fact that the returns of revenue and expenditure for the year up to date foreshadow a surplus at the year end as excessive as in the year last ended, he will consider introducing a second Budget at some later stage to mitigate the bad effects of over taxation by making further tax reductions, and to secure that revenue and expenditure for the year 1934–35 may balance?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Duff-Cooper)

It is quite impossible to base any sound conclusions on returns relating to the first quarter of the financial year only.
