HC Deb 27 February 1934 vol 286 c920
24. Mr. MANDER

asked the Attorney-General if consideration will be given to the advisability of removing from the bench those magistrates who recently at Wisbech illegally sent five boys to an industrial school?

The ATTORNEY-GENERAL (Sir Thomas Inskip)

My Noble Friend the Lord Chancellor has already given careful consideration to this matter, and I have nothing to add to the answer given to the hon. Gentleman on 1st February.

Mr. MANDER

Does my right hon. and learned Friend think that magistrates who deliberately break the law are suitable for administering justice?

The ATTORNEY-GENERAL

The hon. Gentleman, so far as my information goes, has no ground whatever for saying that these magistrates have deliberately broken the law. The magistrates undoubtedly made a grave error in their jurisdiction, but I see no reason for treating them as if they had behaved dishonestly or corruptly.
