HC Deb 20 February 1934 vol 286 cc184-5
13. Sir N. GRATTAN-DOYLE

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether, in view of the default of Chile on all her obligations to British investors, he will cause an analysis to be made and then state in due course the estimated aggregate amount of the profit on a basis of 7½ per cent. profit on the Board of Trade record of goods and services exported to Chile since 1886, to be computed as a set-off for the lost British capital savings lent to the Chilean Government since 1886?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I do not think that such a calculation, even if it could be made with any precision, would serve any useful purpose.
