17. Sir N. STEWART SANDEMANasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how often the Governor of Ceylon has vetoed legislation passed by the State Council?
Mr. M. MacDONALDNo Bills passed by the State Council since its constitution have been vetoed by the Governor. A Bill with the object of granting relief to judgment debtors, which was only passed by a majority of one in the State Council, was reserved by the Governor for the signification of His Majesty's pleasure, and assent to it was refused.
