HC Deb 14 February 1934 vol 285 cc1906-7
7. Captain PEAKE

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he can give the House any information on the proposed visit of the deputy Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Australia to certain countries in the Far East?

Mr. EDEN

Yes, Sir. His Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom were informed some time ago by His Majesty's Government in the Commonwealth of Australia of this proposed visit, which is one of good will. It is understood that Mr. Latham will visit the Netherlands East Indies, Singapore, Hong Kong, China and Japan. His Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom have been happy to promise their assistance in connection with the tour, which they feel confident will serve a valuable purpose in promoting closer relations with the countries to be visited.
