HC Deb 07 February 1934 vol 285 cc1114-5
45. Mr. D. G. SOMERVILLE

asked the Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department whether, in view of the increasing importance of trade with Palestine and the countries adjoining that mandated territory, he will consider the desirability of appointing a trade commissioner to the area with headquarters at Tel Aviv in view of the growing interest of merchants in the Near and Middle East in the Levant fairs organised in that city; and whether he will arrange for the commissioner to leave for his post before the commencement of the next, and enlarged, Levant fair of 1934?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of TRADE (Dr. Burgin)

I have been asked to reply. It has recently been decided to appoint a Commercial Agent for Palestine to reside at Haifa. He will visit Tel Aviv as occasion requires and it is being arranged that he shall arrive at his post before the commencement of the next Levant fair.
