HC Deb 07 February 1934 vol 285 c1131
48. Mr. CAMPBELL KER

asked the Secretary for Mines whether he can give any information regarding the accident which took place at Fallin on the 3rd February; and what inquiries are being made to ascertain the cause of the accident?

The SECRETARY for MINES (Mr. Ernest Brown)

I very much regret that on the morning of 3rd February an explosion of firedamp in No. 4 Section of the Hartley Seam at Polmaise 3/4 Colliery, near Stirling, resulted in three men being killed, and a fourth seriously injured. The section had been abandoned, and the equipment was being dismantled and removed. The explosion occurred when the four men (one of them a deputy) were on their way inbye along the intake airway to remove a large fan which had been dismantled for the purpose. A thorough investigation by His Majesty's inspectors into the cause of the explosion was commenced the same morning and is still proceeding. The House will wish to join me in expressing our sincere sympathy with the relatives of the deceased men.
