HC Deb 06 February 1934 vol 285 c962
66. Mr. T. SMITH

asked the Secretary for Mines if he can state the amount of coke imported from Belgium during 1933 and 1932?

Mr. E. BROWN

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave yesterday to a question by the hon. Member for Plaistow (Mr. Thorne).

Mr. THORNE

Is the hon. Gentleman not aware of the shortage of coke used for blasting steel and pig iron, and would he not urge the people on the North East coast to put more furnaces into operation?

Mr. BROWN

I believe those concerned are making every effort to do so.
