YOUNGThe total number of persons, men, women and children, in receipt of poor relief in England and Wales, excluding rate-aided patients in mental hospitals, persons in receipt of domiciliary medical relief only and casuals, on Saturday, the 13th January, 1934, was 1,406,076, and on Saturday, the 14th January, 1933, 1,391,185. The weekly returns from which these figures have been obtained do not distinguish the numbers of men, women and children, but I will, if he desires, send the hon. Member a statement showing separately the numbers of men, women and children in receipt of poor relief on 1st January of the two years when the detailed returns relating to this year are available.
