HC Deb 11 December 1934 vol 296 cc206-7
47. Mr. BOOTHBY

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether it is the policy of His Majesty's Government to maintain cheap money?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

Certainly, Sir. The maintenance of cheap money continues to form an essential part of the policy of His Majesty's Government.

Sir J. NALL

Does the right hon. Gentleman realise that the low return on investments coupled with the present high rate of taxation is severely crippling spending power?

Mr. BOOTHBY

Does the right hon. Gentleman also realise that the only chance of a further reduction of taxation is to make money as cheap as possible?
