HC Deb 06 December 1934 vol 295 cc1807-8
18. Mr. THORNE

asked the Home Secretary whether there were proper fire escape staircases at the warehouse of the Artesco Company, Rosebery Avenue, Clerkenwell, at which a serious fire broke out on Monday last; and how many persons were injured?

Sir J. GILMOUR

I am informed that adequate means of escape were provided as required by the London County Council, who are the authority responsible in this case, and that all the employs were quickly outside the building. The only injuries, in neither case at all serious, were to a fireman and to a workman from next door who discovered and was trying to extinguish the fire.
