HC Deb 05 December 1934 vol 295 cc1591-2
65. Mr. THORNE

asked the Minister of Labour whether he has received any information from his representative at Clydebank, Glasgow, about the closing down of the Singer sewing-machine factory; whether he can state the number of workpeople discharged; whether they will receive unemployment benefit; and what was the cause of the factory being closed?

The MINISTER of LABOUR (Mr. Oliver Stanley)

I am having inquiry made and will write to the hon. Member as soon as possible.

Mr. KIRKWOOD

Arising out of that reply, may I point out that I have not heard it?

Mr. SPEAKER

There was not very much to hear.

Mr. KIRKWOOD

This concerns my constituency, but there was such a noise that nobody could hear the reply.

HON. MEMBERS

Read it again.

Mr. STANLEY

I said: "I am having inquiry made and will write to the hon. Member as soon as possible."
