HC Deb 04 December 1934 vol 295 cc1393-4
7. Captain SHAW

asked the Secretary for Mines whether his attention has been directed to the dispute at the Woodside colliery, Stonehouse, where 11 miners have refused to join the union for conscientious reasons; and whether he will see that these men are not penalised or their livelihood endangered?

Mr. E. BROWN

I understand that this dispute has been settled on a basis acceptable to all concerned.

Mr. T. SMITH

Is the hon. Member aware that large numbers of mine workers who desire to join a trade union are debarred from doing so by the coalowners?

Mr. BROWN

I know that there are many difficulties connected with these problems.
