§ 41. Mr. WILMOTasked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that a mortgage, registered on the 5th October, 1934, discloses that a motor ship, named the "London River," belonging to a limited company, carries guns, ammunition and small arms; and whether he will state whether permission has been given for these armaments to be carried upon a ship on the River Thames, and for what purpose they are intended?
§ Sir J. GILMOURThe hon. Member has been misled. It appears on inquiry that, while the standard form of mortgage deed for vessels contains a reference to "guns, ammunition and small arms," no such articles are in fact or ever have been carried on board the "London River," which is a small vessel of recent construction used solely for the carriage of passengers.
§ Mr. WILMOTWhile thanking the right hon. Gentleman for that reply, I would ask him whether he is aware that it is most unusual to use this form in the case of small river craft?
