HC Deb 03 December 1934 vol 295 c1224
31. Mr. TINKER

asked the Minister of Health whether he will consider giving greater powers to local authorities to deal with the question of slag heaps, pit heaps, and similar accumulations of waste matter which, according to the report on depressed areas, prove to be a source of trouble to the locality in which they are situated?

Mr. SHAKESPEARE

The general question to which the hon. Member refers is receiving consideration. So far as it affects depressed areas, I would draw attention to the statement of the Chancellor in the Debate on 14th November.

Mr. TINKER

Is the hon. Member going into this question in view of the statement in the report that these growing accumulations of waste matter are a serious nuisance?

Mr. SHAKESPEARE

Inquiries have been made from several local authorities as to how far these heaps constitute a nuisance under the Public Health Acts.
