HC Deb 03 December 1934 vol 295 c1215
34. Lieut. - Colonel Sir ARNOLD WILSON

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether it is proposed to make an order under the Act of 1917 for a further census of production; if so, whether he will consider fixing 1936 as the censal year in order to facilitate correlation of results with the national census if taken in that year; and whether he will introduce legislation to amend Section 3 (1) of the Census of Production Act, 1906, whereby the Board of Trade are precluded from requiring compulsory statements of the amount of wages paid?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of TRADE (Dr. Burgin)

The intention is to take a Census of Production at intervals of five years with the 1930 Census as the starting point of the series. The necessary Order for a Census in respect of the year 1935 will be laid before the House shortly. The collection of information about wages is a matter primarily for the Minister of Labour, and I will consult my right hon. Friend on my hon. and gallant Friend's suggestion.
