§ 41. Mr. HUTCHISONasked the Minister of Health which public assist- 1871 ance authorities have taken steps to raise their scales of relief for children to 3s. per head since February of this year?
Sir H. YOUNGI am aware that this increase has been made, in the period suggested, by the county borough councils of Bolton, Rochdale and Salford. I should, however, explain that there is no obligation on public assistance authorities to frame a scale of relief or to report any scale so framed to me, and that there has never been any rule that the relief granted to the head of a family in respect of a child should be fixed at any particular figure.
