§ 27. Mr. ALAN TODDasked the Minister of Transport whether he is satisfied that the pledge given by the Government on 26th September, 1929, to the representatives of the Chelsea Borough Council, with reference to the emission of sulphur fumes from the Battersea power station, has been fulfilled; and if he will make a statement as to the question of emission of smoke and fumes from the power station?
Mr. STANLEYThe pledge referred to still holds, and the remaining sections of the new Battersea power station will not be sanctioned unless the gas-washing plant already installed is working efficiently. The position at present is that, while there is no reason to be dissatisfied with the results so far obtained, the station has not yet been in commercial operation sufficiently long for a final conclusion to be reached.
