HC Deb 19 April 1934 vol 288 cc1104-5
6. Mr. VYVYAN ADAMS

asked the Home Secretary whether he is now in a position to state what action it is proposed to take with regard to the wearing of political uniforms?

Sir J. GILMOUR

I regret I am not yet in a position to make any statement on this matter.

Brigadier-General NATION

Is not the chief difficulty in connection with the definition of the word "uniform" and would not the word "uniform" apply to the members of a society who wore red beards or false noses?

Mr. PIKE

Is not the difficulty in the definition of the word "political"?

Mr. THORNE

Does the right hon. Gentleman recognise that the psychology of wearing uniforms of any kind, outside the recognised forces, and drilling and training, means upsetting the democracy of this country?
