HC Deb 18 April 1934 vol 288 c950
20. Mr. WHITESIDE

asked the Undersecretary of State for Air if he will state the average number of hours flown by service members of the Air Council during 1933 either as pilots or passengers in military machines?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for AIR (Sir Philip Sassoon)

No separate record is kept of the number of hours flown by the service members of the Air Council from year to year, which naturally varies with the location and nature of the inspection and other duties to be carried out. For example, the chief of the Air Staff is at the present time carrying out a long tour of inspection by air in the Middle East.

Mr. WHITESIDE

Can my right hon. Friend assure the House that Service members of the Air Council have full practical experience of the performances of modern machines?

Sir P. SASSOON

They keep themselves in flying training.
