HC Deb 17 April 1934 vol 288 cc881-2
35. Sir M. WOOD

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what proportion of their work has already been completed by the Educational Endowments (Scotland) Commission; and whether it is expected that their work will be completed by the end of this year when the commissioners' term of office expires?

Mr. SKELTON

The Commission have completed rather more than half of their work, but they still have to deal with the endowments of Glasgow, Dunbarton, Fife, Lanark, Perth and Kinross, Renfrew and Stirling. I am informed that full details of the state of progress will be given in the Commissioners' Fifth Report, which will be published at an early date and will be available for hon. Members. It will not be possible for the Commissioners to complete their work by the end of this year.

Sir I. MACPHERSON

Is it proposed to end the life of this Commission at the end of the year?

Mr. SKELTON

The question of whether legislation will be introduced continuing the life of the Commission is at present under consideration.

Sir I. MACPHERSON

Will the hon. Gentleman bear in mind that the people of Scotland desire that the Commission's life should be ended?

Mr. SKELTON

All relevant considerations will be borne in mind.
