HC Deb 16 April 1934 vol 288 c688
4. Mr. GEORGE HALL (for Mr. DAVID GRENFELL)

asked the Secretary of State for India what reason is given for the ban placed by the Government of India upon the report on the condition of India signed and published by four persons, some of whom are former members of this House; and whether he will exert his influence to have the ban removed so that the people of India may learn the nature of the report made by the delegation?

Sir S. HOARE

The Government of India, with my concurrence, have prohibited the entry of copies of this book into India, on the ground that in view of the nature of its contents its circulation in India would constitute an offence under the Penal Code.
