HC Deb 11 April 1934 vol 288 c312
38. Mr. LAWSON

asked the Minister of Labour the estimated annual balance of the Unemployment Fund on the basis of the present unemployment figures?

The MINISTER of LABOUR (Sir Henry Betterton)

At the present time and under existing conditions for the payment of benefit, the surplus of income over expenditure of the Unemployment Fund is at the rate of about £16,000,000 a year. The hon. Member will realise, of course, that this figure would be substantially reduced under the provisions for additional benefits contained in the Unemployment Bill.
