HC Deb 30 November 1933 vol 283 cc1044-5
43. Mr. SUMMERSBY

asked the Minister of Health what time was involved in the inquiry by public officials recently ordered by the district auditor in connection with the presentation of an engrossed vellum testimonial to the late mayor of Shoreditch; what was the approximate cost of this inquiry; and whether he is aware that the cost of the vellum and engrossment in question was only £2 15s.?

Mr. SHAKESPEARE

No Inquiry into this matter was ordered by the District Auditor, but having taken exception at the audit of this Borough Council's accounts to the expenditure incurred, he followed the normal and proper course of affording the members concerned an opportunity of attending the audit and showing cause why the amount in question should not be disallowed and surcharged.
