HC Deb 30 November 1933 vol 283 c1049
63. Mr. MITCHESON

asked the President of the Board of Trade what steps are being taken by the Government to counteract the effect of the subsidy which the German Government is granting in respect of exports of German goods?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer I gave on Tuesday last to my hon. Friends the Members for Moseley (Mr. Hannon) and West Bromwich (Mr. Ramsay).

Mr. HANNON

Is the President of the Board of Trade prosecuting inquiries actively in this matter and will he be in a position soon to make a statement as to the effect of these subsidies on British industry?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

If my hon. Friend will charge his memory with the reply which I made last week, he will find that I said that the whole position was being carefully reviewed, and that in the mean-time I am unable to make a statement.

Mr. HANNON

Yes, but does my right hon. Friend realise that my anxiety is that it should be accelerated?
