HC Deb 28 November 1933 vol 283 cc683-4
43. Mr. BOOTHBY

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what further measures the Government propose to take to assist growers of oats?

Sir G. COLLINS

I would refer to the answer I gave to a question on this subject by the hon. Member for Central Aberdeen (Mr. R. W. Smith) on 14th instant and to my statements in the course of the Debates on the 15th and 23rd instant, and I have nothing to add to that statement.

Mr. BOOTHBY

Does the right hon. Gentleman not realise that in spite of the months of agitation in this House the oats position to-day is worse than it has ever been?

Sir G. COLLINS

I am well aware that the position has not improved for many long months, but, as I indicated in the Debates on the 15th and 23rd instant, certain machinery has been set up by the Government for the trade itself to operate.

Mr. KIRKWOOD

Was the right hon. Gentleman present last night when the Lord President of the Council told us that everything was as well as possibly could be expected, and that we were practically round the corner?
