HC Deb 27 November 1933 vol 283 cc489-90
48. Mr. R. W. SMITH

asked the President of the Board of Trade what quantities of frozen beef (carcases and boned beef) were imported from foreign countries in the quarters July to September, 1931, January to March and April to June, 1932, and January to March, April to June, and July to September, 1933?

Dr. BURGIN

As the answer involves a number of figures, I will circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Mr. SMITH

May I ask if there are increases in 1933, as against 1931 and 1932, or not?

Dr. BURGIN

Perhaps the hon. Gentleman will await the reply. It is a little difficult to see at sight, as the periods are very broken. There seem to be some which are slightly above, and some which are slightly below.

Following is the answer:

The total quantities of frozen beef (carcases and boned beef) imported into the United Kingdom and registered as consigned from foreign countries during the undermentioned periods were as follow:

cwts.
1931—July to September 94,059
1932—January to March 123,808
April to June 59,513
1933—January to March 126,034
April to June 50,570
July to September 83,262
