HC Deb 27 November 1933 vol 283 c511
35. Mr. HALL-CAINE

asked the Postmaster-General if he can state the total loss involved through the despatch of British letters by French air-mail to South America during 1932; and the total profits obtained through the despatch of British letters by British air-mail to South Africa during the same period?

Sir K. WOOD

During the calendar year 1932 there was an estimated loss on the South American air service of £2,700, and during the same period there was a margin of profit of about £1,400 on the air service to South Africa. A recent reduction of the air fees to South Africa by 2d. a oz. has, however, reduced the margin of profit on this service to negligible proportions.
