HC Deb 16 November 1933 vol 281 cc1097-8
21. Mr. T. WILLIAMS

asked the Home Secretary whether, before any decision is reached on the question of legalizing totalisators on greyhound racing tracks, he will consult representative bodies and persons who are opposed to such legislation?

Sir J. GILMOUR

I am ready to consider any communications that may be sent to me on the subject, but I believe that the Government are fully seized of the different points of view which are held on this subject and to which the most careful consideration will be given before a decision is reached.

Mr. WILLIAMS

Have personal representations been made to the right hon. Gentleman by any bodies other than those directly interested in totalisators?

Sir J. GILMOUR

Yes, I received this morning a deputation representing all the churches.

Mr. LEVY

Is there any justification for prohibiting the mechanical bookmaker when human bookmakers are allowed?
