HC Deb 13 November 1933 vol 281 cc551-2
26. Colonel WEDGWOOD

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what action His Majesty's Government proposes to take in connection with the suppression of two newspapers at Danzig, the imprisonment of their editors, and the exclusion from the police and official posts of all who are not Nazis?

Mr. EDEN

I have not yet received the communication referred to by my right hon. Friend in reply to the hon. Member for East Wolverhampton (Mr. Mander) on 8th November. My right hon. Friend has asked me to take this opportunity to correct a misapprehension arising out of that reply. It was Mr. Rosting, the Acting High Commissioner, and not Mr. Lester, who made the appeal to the League of Nations referred to in that question.

Colonel WEDGWOOD

May I ask the hon. Gentleman whether there is any possibility of a change in the representation at Geneva and at Danzig?

Mr. EDEN

Does the right hon. and gallant Gentleman mean the High Commissioner? Yes, Sir.

Colonel WEDGWOOD

When will the change take place?

Mr. EDEN

I think in January.
