HC Deb 13 November 1933 vol 281 cc549-50
24. Mr. HANNON

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he can make any statement with regard to the recent incident in the White Sea, when the British trawlers "Dane" and "St. Brelade" were boarded by armed seamen from a Russian inspection ship and forced at the point of a revolver to sign a document in Russian in connection with unlawful fishing?

Mr. EDEN

I have no information beyond what has appeared in the Press. My right hon. Friend is, however, now awaiting the receipt of reports which are expected shortly from the British Vice-Consul at Tromsö and from the masters of the vessels concerned.

Mr. HANNON

Have the Government asked the Vice-Consul for a report or is he dependent entirely on the announcement in the "Times"?

Mr. EDEN

We have asked for a report.
