HC Deb 07 November 1933 vol 281 cc17-8
27. Mr. T. WILLIAMS

asked the Minister of Agriculture the average wholesale and retail price for raspberries in Scotland for the last three seasons?

Sir G. COLLINS

The average wholesale price per lb. for raspberries sold in the Glasgow market during the years 1931, 1932 and 1933, was 5¼d., 7½d., and 7½d. No official statistics as to the retail prices of raspberries are collected and as there is great fluctuation in prices I could not give an average figure without extensive inquiry. Information from one large firm of traders indicates an average price of about 7½ per lb. in 1931, 9d. in 1932, and 9½d. in 1933, but these figures differ from those obtained from two other sources both as regards the average price in any one year and as regards the rise or fall of price in the three-year period.

Captain ARTHUR HOPE

Can the right hon. Gentleman say what was the price of raspberries in Kilmarnock last week?
