HC Deb 07 November 1933 vol 281 cc3-4
2. Mr. GORDON MACDONALD

asked the Secretary for Mines whether he is now in a position to state by what method he intends to reduce the amount of overtime worked in and about the coal mines of Great Britain?

The SECRETARY for MINES (Mr. Ernest Brown)

This question has now been raised officially by the Miners' Federation. I discussed it at a meeting I had recently with their executive, and they have given their support to a proposal somewhat similar to that made by the hon. Member in July for a special investigation into the problem over the country as a whole. I have agreed to this course, and I am considering the most convenient and effective way of carrying out the inquiry without delay.
