HC Deb 07 November 1933 vol 281 c20
28. Mr. RHYS DAVIES

asked the Home Secretary whether the Government have reached any decision on the Report of the Royal Commission on Lotteries and Betting; and, if so, what action it is proposed to take?

Sir J. GILMOUR

The Report of the Royal Commission on Lotteries and Betting has been engaging the close attention of His Majesty's Government, and although I am not at present in a position to give any undertaking,. I hope that it will be possible to introduce next Session legislation dealing with the subject.

Viscountess ASTOR

Does not the right hon. Gentleman think that if the Government acted more quickly on these reports they would get less opposition?

Sir W. DAVISON

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the British Museum, which was started by means of a lottery, has already spent the small and reduced grant made by Parliament, and will he consider the desirability of holding a lottery in order to get it some funds?
