HC Deb 07 November 1933 vol 281 c28
Mr. SMEDLEY CROOKE

(by Private Notice) asked the Home Secretary what action he proposes to take with regard to the proposal to offer white poppies for sale on Armistice Day in the streets in certain districts; and whether, seeing that Armistice Day is a day of remembrance on which Flanders poppies, made by disabled ex-service men, are sold for the benefit of needy ex-service men and the widows and orphans of the fallen he will recommend all chief constables to forbid the selling of white poppies in the streets on that day?

Sir J. GILMOUR

I have no power to intervene in the manner suggested in my hon. Friend's question. So far as I am aware, however, the proposal to sell white poppies in the streets on Armistice Day has been abandoned.
