HC Deb 31 May 1933 vol 278 cc1875-6
32. Captain HEILGERS

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether he can now state the decision of His Majesty's Government in regard to the report of the Royal Commission on Migrant Settlers in Victoria?

Mr. M. MacDONALD

My right hon. Friend is not yet in a position to add anything to the reply which he gave on the 23rd May to the question on this subject addressed to him by the Noble Lord the Member for Bristol Central (Lord Apsley).

Captain HEILGERS

May I ask my hon. Friend whether, in view of the report of the Royal Commission that gross misrepresentations were made to the settlers before they left London, he cannot see his way to urge the Victorian Government to implement the findings of the commission?

Mr. MacDONALD

We have no reason to suppose that the authorities in Australia are not giving very proper and careful consideration to the report.
