HC Deb 31 May 1933 vol 278 c1870
18. Mr. CURRY (for Mr. HOLDS-WORTH)

asked the Minister of Transport if his attention has been drawn to the experiments in oil-electric passenger trains by the Union Pacific Railway Company in the United States; and whether any similar experiments are being carried out in this country with a view to improving the economic position of the rail ways?

Lieut.-Colonel HEADLAM

The whole question of improvement in railway services by the adoption of oil electric passenger trains or the use of light units is being carefully studied by British railway companies. Various experiments are being made and the railway companies are keeping in touch with similar experiments in other countries.
