HC Deb 23 May 1933 vol 278 c930
43. Mr. HAMMERSLEY

asked the Prime Minister whether he will consider the publication of a statement setting out the broad lines of policy on which the British delegation propose to proceed at the World Economic Conference?

The PRIME MINISTER

The policy of His Majesty's Government at the World Economic Conference was outlined by the President of the Board of Trade in the Debate on the Motion proposed by the hon. Member for East Birkenhead (Mr. White) on the 15th March last. I do not think that it would be desirable to issue any written statement of policy.

Mr. HAMMERSLEY

In view of the fact that the public are perfectly well aware of the policy of the American nation, and quite well informed as to the policy of the French nation, and that there is a great deal of dubiety as to what is the policy of His Majesty's Government, would it not be desirable to have some short statement which would make the matter clear?

The PRIME MINISTER

I am very glad that the public is informed about what the American policy is and what the French policy is, and it really must be very well informed regarding ours after the speech which my right hon. Friend made in March.

Mr. PIKE

Will the right hon. Gentleman say whether, before submitting the terms of new trade agreements, the Government will consult experienced industrial opinion?
