HC Deb 23 May 1933 vol 278 c920
31. Mr. T. GRIFFITHS

asked the Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department the names of the countries that impose an import duty on oil, and the amount of duty imposed by each country?

Lieut.-Colonel J. COLVILLE (Secretary, Overseas Trade Department)

Many countries impose import duties on oils. There are over 100 separate tariffs containing many sub-divisions to include all varieties of vegetable and mineral oil. I consider, therefore, that the work involved in the preparation and publication of such a statement would not be justified. As I assume, however, that the hon. Member's question relates primarily to-import duties imposed on mineral oils other than motor spirit, I am sending him a statement showing the rates of duty imposed on such products in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and the United States.
