HC Deb 18 May 1933 vol 278 c526
24. Mrs. TATE

asked the Minister of Health whether the whole sum of £5,000,000 of additional Exchequer money provided for under the Local Government Act of 1929 as a margin for the development of total services has been allocated for the first grant period; and, if so, for what purposes the money has been approved?

Sir H. YOUNG

The £5,000,000 additional Exchequer money referred to formed part of the Annual General Exchequer Contribution under the Local Government Act, 1929, for the first fixed grant period of three years beginning op 1st April, 1930. This General Exchequer Contribution has been distributed among local authorities in accordance with the provisions of the Act. The share of each local local authority is applicable in aid of local government expenses generally, and no portion can be regarded as being assigned to any specific service.
