asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is now in a position to state whether he proposes to institute an inquiry into the public health services, as recommended by the Local Government (Scotland) Committee?

My right hon. Friend proposes to adopt the recommendation of the Committee on Local Expenditure that he should institute an inquiry into the public health services in Scotland. He hopes to be in a position to announce the personnel and the terms of reference of the proposed committee shortly.
