HC Deb 16 May 1933 vol 278 cc193-4
65. Mr. REMER

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he has any information as to the value of the cotton piece goods imported into Jamaica from Japan in the months of January and February of 1930 and in the same months of the present year?

Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER

No monthly statistics of imports are published by the Government of Jamaica. I will, however, ask the Governor whether he can furnish the information desired.

Mr. REMER

Does the information in my right hon. Friend's possession show a very rapid increase of Japanese imports into Jamaica; and, if so, what action is it proposed to take?

Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER

There certainly has been a definite increase. I think the President of the Board of Trade has already stated the general lines on which he is negotiating.
