HC Deb 11 May 1933 vol 277 cc1701-2
8. Mr. GROVES

asked the Home Secretary whether any scale of costs exists for the guidance of magistrates in awarding costs?

Sir J. GILMOUR

In a summary case magistrates can ordinarily award such costs as seem to them "just and reasonable." It is a matter within the discretion of the magistrates in each case. No prescribed scale, therefore, exists.
