Mr. HALL-CAINEasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury what steps are being taken to ensure that, following the embargo on imports from Russia into this country, no petroleum shall he imported from other countries unless it is satisfactorily proved that it is not, either in part or in whole, of Soviet origin?
§ The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Hore-Belisha)Importers of petroleum from countries other than Russia are required to furnish on the relative Customs entry a declaration showing that the goods are outside the scope of the prohibition on imports from Russia, and, in addition, petroleum imported from European and certain Asiatic countries must be accompanied by consular certificates of origin.
§ Mr. THORNEI take it that the Financial Secretary to the Treasury knows that you cannot stop Russia importing into other countries?
§ Mr. PIKEIs the hon. Gentleman aware that the Russian Oil Products com- 1519 pany are circularising local authorities that they can continue to fulfil their contracts and that supplies during the last six months have been coming through Texas? Will he take steps in that direction?
