asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he can state, approximately, the number of persons assessed to Income Tax for the year 1932–33; and what proportion of these were exempted from taxation as a result of allowances and reliefs?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I regret that I am not yet in the position to furnish Estimates for the year 1932–33, but my hon. Friend will find estimates for the year 1931–32, in which year the exemption limit and allowances were the same as in 2932–33, in Table 43 on page 66 of the recently published Seventy-Fifth Report of the Commisisoners of Inland Revenue (Command Paper No. 4196).
